RIICCM202E Identify, locate and protect underground services

Identify, locate and protect underground services

The effective identification,  location and protection of underground services is essential before any civil works or excavation is undertaken.  Contact with and damage to underground services is a danger for  workers and costly for the company.

Participants on this course will use the DBYD system and electromagnetic locators to identify and locate the different underground services using the different signal connection methods. Locators will also be used to locate ball markers and near surface markers associated with the different underground services. Rodders and Sonds, which are inserted down the pipe will also be used for locating.  The available methods for protecting underground services is also covered in the course.

Our practical training facility is set up for identifying and locating both energised and de-energised power cables, communication cables, steel piping and PVC conduit.
